Artisanne Round Placemat with Blue Stripes
2 in stock
- Handmade in Senegal
- Size: 32(Dia) cms
- Material: The baskets are woven from a local grass called ndiorokh and long strips of plastic that are traditionally used to weave bazin mats, similar to prayer mats.
Practical and striking, these lovely placemats with a bold blue pattern are fun to use and will make a nice addition to your breakfast, lunch or dinner table settings.
Each piece is beautifully and traditionally crafted by hand by artisan women in small villages near Thies in Senegal, which has a long history of basket weaving spanning back generations. The attention to detail is meticulous and the designs and patterns are contemporary whilst respecting the traditional weaving style of the region.
Artisanne works directly with the community of Senegalese women to ensure they receive all monies directly, thereby helping them earn a secure and fair income to support themselves, their families and their communities.
As each piece is made by hand, there are slight variations in size, pattern and colour which add to its charm and should be considered a mark of the weaver who made it.
