The Fayoum Pottery School Bowl with Blue Abstract Design is a charming and decorative piece, perfect for serving snacks & treats or simply to enjoy looking at on a dining table or in the kitchen. It can also easily be used to hold small herb pots or plants.
Made entirely by hand by one of the students of the Fayoum Pottery School in Egypt, its design features an original abstract design in shades of blues and purples.
There's also a delightful copper oxide glaze to areas of the outside of the bowl which add an extra sheen and a little sparkle and the inside of the bowl features a small abstract design on one side which adds additional interest.
The Fayoum Pottery School was started in the 1980s by Swiss potter Evelyne Porret and her husband Michel Pastore in a small hamlet called Tunis in Fayoum, an oasis south-west of Cairo.
As the hamlet is set in an agricultural area and along the shores of a large salt-water lake called Lake Qaroun, many of the students take inspiration from local rural pastoral or fishing scenes for their designs.
As each piece is made entirely by hand, there are variations in size, pattern and colour which add to its charm and should be considered a mark of the potter who made it. No two pieces are alike, though many can be grouped or used together beautifully.
